UK alt-metal band Defences have just unveiled the music video for their latest single “Shadowlight”, the title track from their highly anticipated album, due for release on 8 November via Long Branch Records. Alongside the single release, Defences have announced a special album release show at London’s Camden Assembly on 9 November, with more dates to follow.
Shadowlight is a deep dive into the process of self-exploration, embracing the difficult parts of ourselves we often ignore. Vocalist Cherry Duesbury describes the song as a personal reflection on “shadow work,” the practice of confronting and accepting one’s inner darkness. According to Duesbury, the lyrics explore the healing process, offering a raw and honest portrayal of personal growth. “It’s an ongoing journey that lasts a lifetime,” she shares, noting how the track began as a form of manifestation before she fully embraced the themes she sings about.
The new album, Shadowlight, promises to be a transformative experience, delving into themes of isolation, self-awareness, and creative vulnerability. The band explains that the album is about “accepting inner darkness, understanding it, and using it to change your outlook.” With a blend of heavy riffs, melodic intensity, and profound lyrics, the album explores the emotional rollercoaster that comes with creative expression and self-reflection.
Following a successful tour with Swarm6ix, Defences are gearing up for their London album release show on November 9th, followed by an appearance at the Hammerdown Winter Militia in Brighton on December 7th. With millions of streams and appearances at major festivals like Download and Turbulence, Defences are quickly cementing their place as one of the most promising acts in the UK alt-metal scene.
