Principal songwriter Brendan Dyer shares:
“We were trying to write the fastest song we have to date. A lot of the lyrics on this record were written on my daily walks to and from work into my phone. I live in a relatively suburban area of Los Angeles that reminds me of the East Coast where I grew up and so it only felt appropriate to sing about Picket Fenced yards. It's a sad song - there are feelings of the forgotten past, seasons changing, connecting patterns, and pulling through in silence. Just another 'keep on pushing' type of song.”
The genesis of MILLY's upcoming album, Your Own Becoming, stemmed from a period of profound personal reflection for principal songwriter Brendan Dyer. Struggling with anxiety and haunted by existential thoughts, Dyer sought solace in daily walks, using them as a means to confront his inner demons and find clarity. Armed with notebooks filled with fragments of his dreams and musings, he turned to his bandmates, determined to channel his emotional journey into their music.
On New Year's Day, 2023, Dyer gathered his bandmates to embark on a new musical venture, setting the stage for their most ambitious project to date. With unwavering dedication and newfound discipline, the band delved into the songwriting process, drawing inspiration from their shared experiences and mutual love for music. Guided by producer Sonny DiPerri and fueled by their collective passion, MILLY transformed what was originally conceived as a solo project into a collaborative masterpiece.
