Pop Vulture drop new single “Comforting Lie”

Leeds-based art-rock ensemble Pop Vulture has returned with a bold new offering, "Comforting Lie," released via Come Play With Me Records / EMI North.

Emerging from the vibrant DIY scene of Leeds, the band brings forth a captivating sonic landscape that demands attention and sparks intrigue.

Infusing elements from the dissonance of the No-Wave movement and the unconventional spirit of post-punk, Pop Vulture weaves together tightly-wound grooves with stream-of-consciousness themes, often exploring topics related to mental health and the complexities of modern existence.

Having evolved from experimenting with noise-rock to exploring kraut and post-rock territories, Pop Vulture now ventures into a new-wave inspired post-punk hybrid. "Comforting Lie" showcases their mastery of fractious guitars, rhythmic percussion, and sour melodies, creating a sonic atmosphere that prompts heads to twist and bodies to contort.

The track features sweet trombone lines delicately lulling between verses, contrasting with argumentative guitar and bass lines that engage in a seductive battle for sonic space. As the piece progresses, uncharacteristic power chords and a driving backbeat provide a foundation before the song transcends into a blissful yet anarchic climax, characterized by distorted guitars and accumulating feedback.

"Comforting Lie" serves as a stark and pessimistic response to the notion that wealth equates to satisfaction in life. Through their music, Pop Vulture challenges this notion, offering a raw and unfiltered exploration of the human condition.

Pop Vulture has been making waves across the UK with a series of highly anticipated live performances alongside acclaimed acts such as Yard Act, Folly Group, and English Teacher. With more shows on the horizon, Pop Vulture continues to captivate audiences with their unique blend of sonic experimentation and raw emotional intensity.
